Parent/Teacher Conferences

Progress reports are coming home today in your child's folder.  These show all recorded grades through last week.  If you have any questions about this report, jot them down for next week's conferences.  The conferences will be from 3:00-9:00 on Thursday, September 27th.  Hopefully everyone will be able to attend as I look forward to discussing how great your child is doing so far!  We will look at the Dibels Test Results, Star Test Levels, and at the grades taken so far this year.  Please mark your calendars.

iPads

Our classroom has three new iPads!  Today a group of girls were able to test one out during reading time since they have already met their monthly reading goal.  They seemed to have loads of fun doing some challenging math.  Everyone in the class will have a chance to check out them out soon.

Text Feature Scavenger Hunt

This week in reading we are using text features such as the table of contents, index, and glossary to help us locate information.  Today we learned 23 different text features and located them in nonfiction books from our classroom and library during our scavenger hunt.  There was loads of great discussion around the classroom about each text feature and the students did a great job using the available resources when unsure if a located feature fit into a category.  They make me proud everyday.

Writing Lesson: How to Blow a Bubble

This week in writing we wrote three how-to pieces.  Monday we wrote "How to Eat in Bennett Cafeteria,"  on Wednesday the kids wrote "How to Make a Sandwich,"  and we finished up Thursday with "How to Blow a Bubble."  The finished product was Wonderful!
