Your Required Reading Guide
1.
Realistic Fiction: This genre takes place in the present time and centers around realistic life issues.  Complete the 4 R’s Response Assignment and take an AR test over your novel.  Your book should be at least 100 pages.
·   You are responsible for choosing the correct books based on the criteria. Ask for help before reading too far into the wrong book.

·   You are responsible for meeting due dates.

·   You are responsible for keeping up with your passport folder.

·   You have everything you need to know before we even beginso NO EXCUSES or LATE WORK.

·   The REQUIRED reading of your library book will mostly be done as homework, but have your book EVERYDAY in class.

·   Reading more than the required books may be counted as extra credit.

You may read your genres in any order you choose.

Science Fiction: This genre takes place in a different type of society, possibly the future, where extreme technological, scientific or supernatural events occur. Complete the 4 R’s Response Assignment and take an AR test over your novel.

Historical Fiction: This genre is set in the past and has characters, events, and story details that reflect the time period of the novel. Your assignment is to create an advertisement to sell the novel and take an AR test.

Fantasy: This genre involves a storyline that includes magical forces and supernatural characters such as elves, vampires, dragons, wizards, and witches.  Choose between and Pinterest Board or a Facebook Profile for a character from the novel and take an AR test.
5.
Mystery: This genre usually involves a puzzle or a problem for which a character must find a solution. Choose one of the story response activities, Letter to Movie Director or News Story, and take an AR test.
6.
Autobiography/Biography: This genre tells a detailed story of someone’s life.  An autobiography is a memoir written by the person    who is the subject of the book.  Choose one of the assignments, Video Game Manual, Life Map, or Comic Book, and take an AR test.
7.
Informational:  Nonfiction books contain true information based on facts, data, and research.  Complete the Nonfiction reading response writing paper and take an AR test. Your book must be worth one AR point unless approved by me.

Graphic Novel:  This genre has a specific format of graphics with burst of test to help the reader interpret the plot, setting, characters, and conflict.  Fill out a story mountain, or plot map, to sequence the events of the story and take an AR test.

Classic/Award-Winning Fiction: Choose a book that was published before 1960 that has been referenced through the years as a classic or a book that won a Newberry Award.  Complete the 4 R’s Response assignment and take an AR test.
