Late Post!

I've been a little off my teaching game while Callen's been in recovery...sorry for the late post.

New News

I've been working on a new website for our class! I would like to be able to post documents or videos and this blog will not support those features. So....check out the work in progress at mwilliams6th.weebly.com :)

THERE IS NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS ON MONDAY, JANUARY 18th.

When we return we will be doing lessons in our notebooks on Nonfiction Text Structures and Author's Purpose. We will have a new spelling list as well. The first chance spelling test will be Jan 22 and the final opportunity to test on this list will be Jan 29th. Here's the list if you would like to get a head start. January 11-15

There will be a vocabulary test and spelling test on January 15th. 

You guys did a GREAT job on the Greek word parts last week...this week we move on to Latin. The vocabulary test will cover the meaning of the 42 most common Latin word parts. A list will be handed out Monday in class so you can begin studying. To practice on Quizlet click HERE.

The spelling test will be over the following ten words that use Latin roots:

1. aquarium              6. intercept
2. bifocal                  7. multiply
3. contradict             8. nonprofit

In the spring we will be doing a novel unit over the book The Westing Game. This month the Scholastic Book Club is offering a paperback copy of the book for $1. If your child would like their own book to use during our unit please send money to school by January 22nd. I will have a set of books available in our classroom, so this is not requiredIf you would like to purchase one additional copy for our classroom it would be greatly appreciated.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas Break and a super New Year's celebration...now it's back to the regular schedule.  (Insert kids groan and parents cheer here.)

Over the next two weeks we will be studying Greek and Latin Roots. This week we will focus on the 42 most commonly used Greek parts and move on to Latin roots next week.

There will be a vocabulary test and spelling test on January 8th.
